From the Poodle, they inherit legendary poodle intelligence, as well as their gorgeous, non-shedding coat. From the Golden Retriever they get their sunny, friendly nature, good with kids and pets alike.
Their coats vary, from the longer, straighter waves of the retriever, to the tight curls of the poodle. While not completely hypoallergenic, they are very low shedding, and considered to be excellent choices for low allergy needs. Routine grooming, and occasional washing, and trimming as needed, is recommended to keep them looking like a champ.
Size-wise, Standard Goldendoodles will reach anywhere from 45-65 lb. They range in color from blond, to dark red, to black, to a mix, known as parti color.
Goldendoodles have name distinctions, known as F1 & F1-B. First-generation goldendoodles, are called "F1", meaning the parents are a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. Second generation Goldendoodles are called "F1-B", meaning they had a Poodle and a "F1" Goldendoodle as their parents. As a general rule, Goldendoodles are not bred further then the 2nd generation, to ensure as wide a gene pool as possible, and thus avoid the genetic issues that can plague breeds with a small gene pool.
As a general rule, Goldendoodles are very healthy dogs, needing only a proper diet, and routine checkups to remain in vibrant health over their lifespan (12-15 years). Hip Dysplasia (see more here), along with several other inherited disorders, are among the most common issues. We take great care to ensure the health, and freedom of genetic disorders for all our breeding dogs. Using only the highest quality bloodlines, helps ensure your new puppy will be in optimum health, free of genetic disorders, and with proper care, will stay in tip-top shape for many years to come!
